NSU, UniMed sign MoU to improve pharmaceutical industry

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at North South University (NSU) and UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate and establish a long-term industry-academia partnership.

The MoU was signed at a formal ceremony held at NSU campus. It was signed by NSU Vice-Chancellor Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, and UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Chairman M Mosaddek Hossain, says a press release issued Sunday.

The ceremony was attended by Pro-VC (IC) of NSU, faculty members, researchers, and representatives from both institutions.

This strategic partnership aims to foster research and innovation, enhance the development of the pharmaceutical industry, and create opportunities for students and researchers to engage in practical, industry-driven projects, added the press release.

The MoU establishes a broader framework for industry-academia collaboration. Through this partnership, students and faculty members from NSU will have access to internships, joint research opportunities, and professional training programs at UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd. The collaboration will also facilitate knowledge exchange, technology transfer, and skill development initiatives, preparing students for the evolving demands of the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Professor Abdul Hannan Chowdhury emphasised the significance of this partnership, stating, “This MoU marks a pivotal step in bridging academia and industry. By collaborating with UniMed UniHealth Pharmaceuticals Ltd., we aim to provide our students with hands-on learning experiences and contribute to cutting-edge research that will benefit Bangladesh’s healthcare sector.”

M Mosaddek Hossain also expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, adding, “As one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Bangladesh, we are committed to fostering innovation and research. This partnership with NSU will not only help in skill development but also create pathways for groundbreaking research in the pharmaceutical industry.”

Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences Chairman Professor Md Hossain Shariare said, “The collaboration will focus on pharmaceutical research, drug development, quality assurance, and regulatory affairs to contribute to the sustainable growth of the healthcare sector.”

The collaboration reflects NSU’s commitment to excellence in education, research, and industry engagement, reinforcing its role as a pioneer in academic innovation. The MoU is expected to open new avenues for students, researchers, and industry professionals, strengthening Bangladesh’s position in pharmaceutical research and development, concluded the press release.
